Land Acquisition

Habitat loss is the single most serious problem facing Kentucky's wildlife today.

Natural areas and farmland are being converted to suburban developments at an ever increasing rate. Though Kentucky has many parks, forests, and wildlife management areas to provide habitat for native wildlife, these public lands represent less than 5% of the total land area in the state.

In order to address this growing problem, the Foundation seeks to acquire land for wildlife habitat. This land is donated to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources for management as part of its overall mission to provide wildlife management areas, to enhance wildlife diversity, and provide outdoor recreational opportunities for Kentuckians.
